Both active members of a pool of New York players exploring free improvisation through constant collaboration, on 'Untangling the Ghost's, we find them as a duo playfully grappling through an existential conversation. The minimal drums/reeds pairing abstracts jazz into raw dialog as Zenkov rotates through instruments, beginning the 40 minute piece with an inspiring bass clarinet solo. Years of practice and thought and feeling are on display in an interaction that can only be achieved by real friends with real skills and a willingness to keep going out on a limb together.
